Winnie

When Winnie came into our lives, all I knew was that I wanted a dog more than anything, but just didn’t know if I was ready. I had always said that when I finally adopted a dog, I wanted a girl, 2-3 years old, and the one that was in the most need of a home. Then I heard about a group of 5 pits who were in urgent need of a home, and contacted MWR right away. As a 2 year old girl, rescued off of the side of the road in Quincy, IL and about to be put down the next day, I knew Winnie was the dog I had been waiting for, and ready or not, I took the plunge. With all of the encouragement and support from MWR, adopting a pit bull seemed like the most wonderful idea in the world… and the second I set eyes on Winnie, I knew it was.

She walked up to me wagging her tail, with those giant brown eyes staring up at me as if to say, “There you are! I’ve been waiting for you.” It was love at first sight, and she has made our apartment the happiest home we could imagine.

More well behaved and trained than we could have ever asked for, Winnie is loyal, full of love and instantly charms any and all who meet her. She loves cuddling up on the couch with a good book as much as running for hours in the park and her favorite activity of all may be just curling up in bed.
The one thing I can say is that she is a true blessing for us, and it breaks my heart every time I think what could have been if just one more day had passed before I found out about her. Thank you so much to Midwest Rescue for bringing her into our lives… I only hope that this much joy can be brought to countless more pits and the lucky households that adopt them.
