My family had some bad luck with our last dog, so even though my kids and I wanted another one, it was not going to be easy to convince my husband to give it another try.
Still, I did my research and was very intrigued by what I learned about pit bulls, although still a little unsure given all the hype from the media.
I happened to stop at Petsmart one day to get some information on an upcoming adoption event. I happened to meet one of Midwest Rescue’s volunteers. When she asked what kind of dog we were interested in, a pit bull was in the back of my mind, but I told her I wasn’t sure.
Well, call it fate because the next words out of her mouth were “How about a pit bull? We just picked up eight orphaned puppies that are going to need homes.”
The puppies were all so adorable we had a hard time deciding, but when Blanca (now Roxie) took a liking to my husband, we knew that she was the one.
I never thought I would see my husband fall in love with a dog the way he has with Roxie. She has become a very important part of our family! I am so glad that we ignored all the media hype and let our hearts lead us to the sweetest, smartest, friendliest dog we could have ever wished for.
Editor’s note: now Roxie has a little brother, and he’s a pit bull, too!
