Volunteer

It is estimated that only 1 in 600 pit bulls find a home in Chicago. If you don’t like the sound of that, help us beat those odds by volunteering.

We are a small, friendly, diverse group of people united by our passion for helping this breed. We enthusiastically welcome new volunteers! So, what exaclty does a volunteer do? All kinds of things, including:

  • Greet the public (and play with our pups) on adoption days at area pet stores and spas
  • Work our booth at pet expos and other events
  • Help with our educational and fundraising efforts
  • Help us get the word out about our adoptable pups
  • Join us for group dog walks and lavish attention on our dogs

On weekends when we don’t have formal events, we often walk dogs in a Lake County forest preserve. It’s not just fun, it’s a low-key way to meet some of the dogs and learn more about the breed.

Other things to know:

  • Because we all have to work for a living (darn), we hold nearly all our group activities on weekends.
  • We don’t have a physical shelter. Most of our pups are in foster homes throughout the Chicago area.
  • We hold events all over the Chicago area, in the suburbs and in the city.
  • Some events are planned far in advance, and sometimes we jump on last-minute opportunities. (If you hear about any dog-related events in your area, please let us know.)
  • Tell us what you’re good at, and what interests you. Whatever skills and talents you bring to the table, we’ll try to find a way to use them.
  • If you’re interested in volunteering, contact us. We’ll add you to our volunteer email list, so you’ll get the scoop on all our activities.

Lots of people think about volunteering, but only a few actually get around to doing it. Please be one of the few who make a difference!
