It’s been a while since we brought this deaf, underweight, pit bull puppy into our rescue family. And still she awaits her forever home.
Mia has been through so much in her short life, she’s only around 2 1/2 years old. Somehow, despite her disability, this baby survived on the streets of Chicago until a good Samaritan took her in. But he was having some tough times of his own, and after six months, determined he couldn’t keep her. We were working with him to help re-home her when we learned that he had left her at a high kill shelter.
We hadn’t planned to bring another pup into our rescue at that time. Our purse strings are stretched as it is. But we couldn’t leave her at the kill shelter, either. So we took a leap of faith and pulled her, knowing that we would have people like you to support Mia’s journey.
We worked with the shelter’s team to keep her safe until we found an emergency foster. (Mia escaped the dog flu that was present in the shelter, thank goodness.) Funded by a big-hearted supporter, Mia was spayed, vetted, and brought her up to date on vaccines. And once that fell into place, we began the task of getting to know this bundle of cuteness!
And what a sweet, playful little girl she is. Now that she is safe, she’s busy making up for her lost puppyhood, learning doggy etiquette, basic sign language and awaiting her forever family. No more upheaval for Mia!
Now she’s ready for her forever home, and we are so excited to be a part of her journey!
